Design and implement database solutions
Overview
This standard is about designing and implementing database solutions.
Database designers design, develop and implement secure database solutions using database design and development tools and techniques. They interpret data models to determine the optimum storage of data within both on-premises and cloud-based database solutions, while also defining appropriate access protocols
Designing and implementing database solutions encompasses the creation of database structures including tables, fields, indexes, views, and triggers, followed by the continual review and enhancement of databases to optimise performance or introduce new functionalities. They are also responsible for documenting the design and development processes to provide comprehensive supporting documentation.
This standard is for those who need to design and implement database solutions as part of their duties.

You must be able to:
- assess database requirements to plan the development of database solutions
- plan database design and implementation activities in line with organisational procedures
- review data models to architect secure database solutions in line with organisational requirements and standards
- present database design solutions clearly and effectively to stakeholders
- implement database solutions to store for both on-premises and cloud-based environments in line with organisational requirements
- contribute to formulating organisational database design and implementation strategies and standards in line with organisational requirements
- perform data migration processes to accurately transfer data between database systems
- collaborate with stakeholders to integrate database solutions and upgrades into live systems
- identify and address technical challenges arising from database design and implementation activities that may impact organisational operations
- deliver database training and support to end users in line with organisational requirements
- provide expert advice on data protection and security procedures for database implementations
- develop and deploy scripts and stored procedures to integrate enhanced database functionality
- document database designs and revisions in line with organisational standards
