Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- engage with the person who has set the brief for radio or audio content
- identify the objectives, budget, intended target audience, timescales and medium for the radio or audio work
- agree with relevant people the resources you are expected to work with
- agree areas of responsibility with relevant people, confirming the requirements of the brief
- keep the person who has set the brief informed of progress at agreed intervals
- offer viable alternatives with the person who has set the brief if problems or obstacles arise
- develop radio or audio content that meets the objectives for the work
- deliver the radio or audio content on time and to budget

You need to know and understand:
- the context for the brief: the style, culture and editorial policy of a specific station or other commissioner
- the genre and the format for the radio or audio commissioned content
- where to obtain reliable information about the brief, objectives, budget, target audience, timescales and medium
- how to communicate effectively with editors or commissioners or and clients
- techniques for questioning and listening and asking pertinent questions to establish the fixed and negotiable elements of the brief
- different ways of responding to respond to a brief for radio and/or audio content
- how to factor in contingencies and respond to changing circumstances
- how to write up a brief and the formats it might be in
