Create designs for broadcast and media systems
Overview
"This standard is about creating designs for broadcast and media systems.
This standard applies to a variety of broadcast and media systems including studio operation, outside broadcast, post production, distribution and transmission.
Your designs might be for clients who are internal or external to the organisation for which you are working."
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
"1. create designs that meet clients' requirements as specified in design specifications for broadcast and media systems
2. apply broadcast engineering processes to meet design specifications
3. create a range of potential, viable system designs for clients to consider
4. obtain advice and guidance to assist you in design work from appropriate sources
5. present designs in agreed formats and with supporting information as required to allow clients to assess them
6. provide rationales for any variations from design specifications
7. check that designs comply with regulations and guidelines
8. check that designs are protected in line with patents, intellectual property and copyright requirements"
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
"1. the purpose, benefits, limitations and risks of the different equipment and software required for broadcast and media systems
2. the differences between cloud based and on premises systems
3. the specific safety precautions to be taken when working with broadcast equipment, software, and media systems
4. the principles of design, architecture, development, and maintenance of networks
5. how to connect broadcast and media systems and equipment to network systems following protocols
6. the organisational processes for ensuring physical and network security of data and systems
7. the technical Quality of Service requirements that affect your work
8. the different types of design specifications and design requirements that clients could provide for broadcast and media systems
9. the benefits of including operators in the design process
10. the different approaches that need to be adopted when working with clients, operators, production staff, technical staff, third parties, service providers and other relevant people
11. when it is appropriate to provide clients with a choice of designs
12. the sources of advice and guidance on designs for broadcast and media systems
13. methods and formats for presenting designs
14. the relevant patents, copyright, and intellectual property issues, and how system designs can be protected
15. the relevant health, safety, environmental and broadcasting regulations, guidelines and company procedures and systems"
