"​This standard is about operating broadcast and media or transmission systems to play out or export media and data in line with specifications and approved procedures. 
This standard applies to a variety of broadcast and media systems including studio operation, outside broadcast, post production, distribution and transmission.
This standard is for broadcast and media systems technicians or technical operators."


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

  1. ​check ingested data against workflow requirements
  2. carry out data manipulation in line with requirements
  3. check and confirm the data to be broadcast is in the required format for the broadcast method, job, and region
  4. operate broadcast and transmission systems using methods and procedures in line with organisational requirements
  5. play out or export media in line with technical requirements
  6. check and confirm that security systems are operating to the required standard
  7. report problems with the broadcast and media outputs or systems
  8. check that the outputs of the broadcast and media systems comply with specifications, regulations, standards, guidelines, and procedures



Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand:

  1. ​the purpose, benefits, limitations and risks of the equipment and software required for broadcast systems
  2. the protocols relating to broadcast and media systems, software and equipment including who can use them
  3. the specific safety precautions to be taken when working with broadcast and media equipment, software, and systems
  4. how to operate the broadcast and media systems, software and equipment required
  5. how to connect broadcast systems and equipment to network systems
  6. the types of problem that can occur with the operation of broadcast and media systems
  7. the organisational processes for ensuring physical and network security of data and systems
  8. the technical Quality of Service requirements that affect your work
  9. the formats required for different broadcast and transmission methods
  10. the effects that the environment in which you are working can have on colour balance and lighting and how to rectify these
  11. the techniques to ingest, wrangle and play out or export broadcast data or media
  12. the industry protocols for metadata in relation to file transfer
