Install and test traction and rolling stock assets and components
Overview
This unit is about installing and testing traction and rolling stock assets and
components and covers work activities associated with the security of
components and checking conformance to required specifications.
This unit consists of one element:
1. Install and test traction and rolling stock assets and components
This element is about installing and testing traction and rolling stock
components using multi-stage processes and components which may be of a
fragile nature. You will work to a plan taking into account local maintenance
instructions and also be able to interpret the appropriate diagrams and
specifications.
You will be able to recognise when the planned installation and testing cannot
be carried out and have the ability to suggest alternative solutions.
The type of asset or component to be installed may include as appropriate:
1. mechanical components
2. electrical components
3. electronic components
4. hydraulic components
5. pneumatic components
6. internal fixtures and fittings
The type and complexity of connections to be made may include as
appropriate:
1. mechanical components and assemblies
2. electrical components and assemblies
3. electronic components and assemblies
4. hydraulic components and assemblies
5. pneumatic components and assemblies
6. combinations of these systems
7. internal fixtures and fittings
The quality standards and accuracy to be achieved will be in line with the set
specifications and approved procedures. It must include reinstating assets to
within operational tolerances
Performance criteria
You must be able to:

specification
P5 ensure that all necessary connections to the components are complete
P6 carry out tests to components as required in accordance with your
organisation's policies and procedures
P7 deal promptly and effectively with problems within your control and report
those that cannot be resolved
P8 check that the installation is complete and that all components are free
from damage
P9 discuss and agree with the relevant person(s) effective and efficient
alternatives where installation activities cannot be achieve
