This standard is about setting up physical displays in line with display plans, and dismantling displays when they are no longer required in a retail organisation.
This standard is for staff with responsibility for setting up and dismantling displays.
When you have completed this standard you will be able to demonstrate your understanding of and ability to:
- Set up and dismantle displays in line with display plans in a retail organisation
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- set up and dismantle the display safely, in line with display plans and within the time allowed following relevant legislation and your workplace procedures
- follow your workplace procedures to check that the display is clean, tidy and safe for use once it is set up
- follow your workplace procedures to check that the display has the levels of stock required
- follow your workplace procedures to protect the parts of the retail display from being damaged during setting up and dismantling
- follow your workplace procedures and relevant legislation to clean and store equipment and excess materials and dispose of recycling and non-recyclable waste safely, correctly and promptly after dismantling
- follow your workplace procedures to set up and dismantle displays with minimum disturbance to other people
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
- the value of displays and promoting new products in your workplace
- how placing products and displays in specific places attracts attention and promotes sales
- how to use space effectively when displaying products
- the relevant legislation, why checks must be made for possible dangers to health and safety when setting up and dismantling displays and how to dismantle them safely
- how to check that any equipment to be used is in working order following your workplace procedures
- how to protect parts of retail displays from being damaged during setting up and dismantling
- the relevant legislation and why materials and equipment used in displays should be cleaned and stored in their correct place and recycling and non-recyclable waste disposed of safely following your workplace procedures
- how to identify safe and approved cleaning materials and equipment to use following your workplace procedures and relevant legislation
- how to identify and correct unsafe displays in your workplace
- why it is important to reduce any disruption and disturbance whilst setting up and dismantling displays
