Receive deliveries and transfer fuel on a forecourt
Overview
This standard is about receiving deliveries of fuel and transferring fuel to tanks. This is where authorised forecourt staff other than the driver transfers the fuel to the tanks. Fuel poses serious risks to health and safety and it is vitally important that all the necessary precautions are taken, and that you follow relevant legislation relating to t your workplace.
This standard is for all staff involved in the control and transfer of fuel on a forecourt.
When you have completed this standard you will be able to demonstrate your understanding of and ability to:
- Receive deliveries and transfer fuel on a forecourt
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- before receiving deliveries of fuel, check that the details in the delivery documents match the order, including details of the type and quantity of fuel ordered following your workplace procedures
- follow relevant legislation relating to your workplace
- follow your workplace procedures to identify any problems with the fuel delivery, take suitable action within the limits of your authority, and refer to the correct person any problems you cannot handle
- follow your workplace procedures and relevant legislation to check the areas of transfer on the forecourt for risks and hazards
- transfer fuel only when all risks and hazards are removed following your workplace procedures and relevant legislation requirements
- transfer the fuel on the forecourt in line with your workplace procedures following all relevant health and safety precautions
- throughout the delivery, remain alert for potential safety hazards and emergencies and deal with these promptly and in line with the relevant legislation and your workplace requirements
- stop the transfer if any risks or hazards are encountered, in line with your workplace procedures and relevant legislation
- follow all relevant safety and emergency procedures if a fuel spill occurs
- complete all the necessary documentation in line with your workplace requirements
- follow your workplace procedures to make the site ready for normal use when the deliveries and transfers are complete
- follow your workplace’s personal hygiene requirements after deliveries and transfers
Knowledge and Understanding

- the delivery details you need to check before fuel is received
- the delivery details you need to check before fuel is transferred to the tanks
- how to check that the details in the delivery documents match the order, including details of the type and quantity of fuel
- typical safety hazards associated with fuel deliveries and the relevant legislation and your workplace requirements for dealing with them
- typical problems with fuel deliveries on the forecourt and how to solve them
- your workplace procedures for transferring fuel to tanks
- the conditions that indicate when a transfer must be stopped
- what to do in the event of an emergency, such as a fuel spill
- the documentation you need to complete and how to complete it
- how to make the site ready for normal use after deliveries and transfers
- the personal hygiene requirements associated with fuel deliveries and transfers
- relevant legislation relating to your workplace
