Overview

This standard is for those who estimate the resources required for working on land-based projects and producing a programme of work.

The land-based projects covered within this standard could be based on farms, game estates, country parks, local playing fields/parks, golf courses or sports turf locations such as bowling greens and tennis courts.

You must carry out your work in a way which will minimise the impact on the natural environment and enhance its nature, conservation and recreational value.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

1. clarify the required outcomes and standards of the proposed land-based project  2. identify and estimate the resources required to achieve the outcomes within the land-based project 3. produce a programme of work to meet the outcomes within the land-based project  4. confirm that the programme of work takes full account of the available resources 5. provide a sequence of work which meets agreed targets  6. produce a specification which enables work to be completed on time, safely and to the standard required 7. confirm that the specification is established and communicated clearly to all those involved in, or affect by, your work 8. check that identified resources are made available at the correct time and managed correctly to reduce wastage and delay in completing the programme of work 9. monitor and review the programme of work and take action when required 10. maintain records in accordance with specifications and organisational requirements 11. carry out your work in accordance with relevant environmental and health and safety legislation, risk  assessment requirements, codes of practice and organisational policies

Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand:

1. the need for project planning and methods of estimating resource requirements for land-based projects 2. budget constraints and cost control associated within land-based projects 3. the effects of timing of resource provision on costs and completion against the budget 4. the methods to optimise resource usage, timing and minimise waste  5. the implications of estimating and arranging resources for the land-based project  6. the range of quality and cost-effective suppliers 7. the importance of maintaining communication with those involved in, or affected by, your work and how this should be done 8. effective project planning, sequencing and monitoring  9. required work outputs for the work types programmed  10. performance measures 11. how to identify possible causes of disruption to the programme of work and their effects 12. how to identify potential hazards and their implications  13. the principles and application of risk assessment 14. the importance of following relevant environmental and ecological best practice to help minimise the impact of your work on the environment 15. your responsibilities under relevant health and safety legislation, codes of practice and organisational policies
