This standard is about contributing to the production of fertile game bird eggs. It can be applied to any game bird that is produced under controlled conditions.

Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- contribute to the production of fertile game bird eggs by the effective implementation of the game bird breeding programme so that targets can be achieved, in accordance with the relevant national legal requirements and codes of practice
- confirm that work is carried out safely, in line with the relevant health and safety requirements
- organise the establishment of breeding pens to support planned fertile game bird egg production
- implement measures to monitor and maintain the safety and security of the game bird breeding stock
- implement measures to control pests and predators
- select breeding stock to optimise the potential returns from breeding activities
- implement suitable feeding and care regimes for the game bird breeding stock in order to maintain their nutritional and welfare requirements
- organise the preparation and care of game bird breeding stock to maintain their welfare, facilitate fertile game bird egg production and comply with the relevant national legislation and codes of practice
- follow established procedures to minimise the effect of factors that can disrupt fertile game bird egg production
- maintain fertile game bird egg production operations within the known resource availability and according to welfare requirements
- administer prophylactic and disease treatments to game bird breeding stock, in accordance with the relevant legal requirements and codes of practice
- recognise and effectively deal with any issues that impact on the game bird breeding programme
- confirm that fertile game bird eggs are handled and stored in the correct manner to maintain their viability
- maintain communication with those involved to facilitate effective game bird egg production

Scope/range
Implement a breeding programme to cover six of the following processes:
