Overview

This standard describes how to control the deployment of fencing materials and components.

This standard covers:

  • identifying the requirements for materials and components
  • confirming that the requests are accurate
  • controlling storage dealing with surplus. 

This standard is designed for fencing installation supervisors. It can be applied to support any fence installation operation.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

  1. complete a site-specific risk assessment to identify hazards
  2. confirm that environmental and health and safety policies and procedures and risk assessment requirements are put into practice in the deployment of fencing materials and components
  3. identify the requirements for fencing materials and components, including their quality and the quantity needed to meet the relevant legal and specification requirements
  4. check that requests for fencing materials and components are complete and conform to the requirements of the programme
  5. order the required materials and components
  6. take delivery of fencing materials and components
  7. manage the storage of fencing materials and components
  8. deal with surplus materials or components, according to company requirements
  9. control the deployment of fencing materials and components
  10. maintain records of materials and components and evidence of deliveries, in accordance with company requirements

Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand:

  1. how to carry out a risk assessment and why this is important
  2. how to communicate environmental and health and safety policies and procedures and risk assessment requirements to the relevant personnel, and confirm that they understand their responsibilities
  3. the sources of information relating to fencing material and component requirements, including the relevant legal and specification requirements
  4. how to interpret the specifications for the material and component requirements
  5. the company procedures for requesting/calling-off materials and components
  6. why deliveries should match programme requirements
  7. the company procedures for recording stock deliveries and usage
  8. the discrepancies that may occur with material and component deliveries
  9. the requirements for the control of the storage of different materials and components
  10. the methods used to deploy fencing materials and components
  11. how to deal with factors that disrupt the deployment of materials and components
  12. the company procedures for dealing with surplus materials and components
  13. the records that need to be kept and the importance of completing them
