Assist with harvesting, collecting and preparing crops
Overview
This standard covers assisting with harvesting, collecting and preparing crops. The
term ‘assist with' is used because you will be supervised in carrying out these activities.
You will be working in accordance with instructions and specifications.
If you are working with chemicals or machinery you need to be appropriately trained or
certificated in line with current legislation.
You must carry out your work in a way which will minimise any impact on the natural
environment.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
P1 prepare, use and maintain equipment appropriate for the work as instructed
safely and effectively
P2 correctly identify the plants which are to be harvested or collected in accordance
with instructions
P3 ensure the methods used for harvesting, collecting and preparing crops are in
accordance with instructions
P4 prepare crops in accordance with instructions and customer requirements
P5 handle the plants in a way which maintains quality and prevents damage
P6 when required, store crops prior to dispatch in accordance with instructions
P7 maintain suitable levels of hygiene and biosecurity in accordance with
instructions
P8 carry out all work in accordance with instructions and specifications
P9 carry out all work in accordance with relevant environmental and health and
safety legislation, risk assessment requirements, codes of practice and company
policies
P10 deal with waste safely and correctly in accordance with instructions
P11 carry out work in a manner which prevents damage to the surrounding area
