Assist with the maintenance of equipment
Overview
This standard covers assisting with the routine maintenance of equipment. The term
‘assist with' is used to indicate that the individual will be working to instructions from a
supervisor.
You will be working in accordance with instructions and specifications.
If you are working with chemicals or machinery you need to be appropriately trained or
certificated in line with current legislation.
You must carry out your work in a way which will minimise any impact on the natural
environment and enhance its nature, conservation and recreational value.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
P1 Check that the equipment requiring maintenance is safe in accordance with
instructions
P2 identify and select the necessary maintenance routine from the manufacturers'
instructions
P3 keep the work area safe and in a condition suitable for the maintenance
procedure
P4 prepare and use tools and materials for the maintenance work in accordance with
instructions
P5 maintain equipment in accordance with instructions
P6 recognise the need for assistance and refer to the appropriate person
P7 maintain and store tools safely and correctly after use
P8 carry out all work in accordance with instructions and specifications
carry out all work in accordance with relevant environmental and health and
safety legislation, risk assessment requirements, codes of practice and company
policies

P10 deal with waste safely and correctly in accordance with instructions
P11 carry out work in a manner which prevents damage to the surrounding area
