Overview

This standard identifies the requirements for promoting and reviewing daily living activities with children and young people. This includes contributing to planning, implementing and reviewing daily living with children and young people and working with groups to promote individual growth and development. It also promotes childcare practice in group living as a positive experience that is caring, nurturing and responsive to children and young people's needs.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

  1. identify the communication, language and developmental needs of children or young people
  2. adapt environments to meet the communication and development needs of children or young people
  3. promote and maintain safe and secure environments and a culture of positive group experiences 
  4. listen and respond in a way that shows value and respect for the opinions and experiences of children or young people
  5. be available to children or young people and others when they wish to communicate with you  
  6. be flexible and responsive to both individual and group needs and preferences 
  7. encourage children or young people to take turns, share space, and consider the opinions and feelings of others 
  8. promote strategies to support children or young people develop boundary setting and emotional regulation 
  9. support children or young people and others to agree on achievable and measurable outcomes for group living 
  10. support children or young people and others to identify group living activities which support them to achieve their outcomes 
  11. work in partnership with children or young people and others to plan their individual and group living activities, considering the needs of others and additional support
  12. work with children or young people and others to plan how to manage risks in their daily activities and group living 
  13. encourage children or young people and others to plan how their outcomes will be monitored and reviewed 
  14. support the development and independence of children and young people during daily activities and group living 
  15. celebrate and reinforce the efforts and achievements of children or young people
  16. monitor progress and respond to risks when supporting children or young people in daily activities and group living 
  17. support children or young people to resolve any challenges with daily activities and group living 
  18. empower children or young people and others to review their progress and outcomes  
  19. encourage children or young people to review the strengths they bring to groups 
  20. work with children or young people to agree changes to their daily activities and group living 
  21. work in partnership with children or young people and others to provide feedback on improving the quality of care and group living 
  22. complete records and reports required for promoting childcare practice in group living 
  23. reflect on how you carried out your roles and responsibilities when promoting childcare practice in group living

  11. how to support children and young people to develop emotional regulation 
  12. how to support children and young people to set and maintain respectful boundaries 
  13. the importance of involving children and young people in decisions about their lives
  14. the positive impact that group interaction and shared experiences can have on outcomes for children and young people
  15. how and where to access information and additional support for children and young people
  16. how to support neurodivergence and additional needs in childcare practice in group living
  17. the importance of stable relationships and the impact of uncertainty and change
  18. the influence of culture and background on childcare practice in group living
  19. how to work in partnership with children and young people and others to plan, monitor and evaluate outcomes
