Overview
This standard identifies the requirements for promoting and reviewing daily living activities with children and young people. This includes contributing to planning, implementing and reviewing daily living with children and young people and working with groups to promote individual growth and development. It also promotes childcare practice in group living as a positive experience that is caring, nurturing and responsive to children and young people's needs.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- identify the communication, language and developmental needs of children or young people
- adapt environments to meet the communication and development needs of children or young people
- promote and maintain safe and secure environments and a culture of positive group experiences
- listen and respond in a way that shows value and respect for the opinions and experiences of children or young people
- be available to children or young people and others when they wish to communicate with you
- be flexible and responsive to both individual and group needs and preferences
- encourage children or young people to take turns, share space, and consider the opinions and feelings of others
- promote strategies to support children or young people develop boundary setting and emotional regulation
- support children or young people and others to agree on achievable and measurable outcomes for group living
- support children or young people and others to identify group living activities which support them to achieve their outcomes
- work in partnership with children or young people and others to plan their individual and group living activities, considering the needs of others and additional support
- work with children or young people and others to plan how to manage risks in their daily activities and group living
- encourage children or young people and others to plan how their outcomes will be monitored and reviewed
- support the development and independence of children and young people during daily activities and group living
- celebrate and reinforce the efforts and achievements of children or young people
- monitor progress and respond to risks when supporting children or young people in daily activities and group living
- support children or young people to resolve any challenges with daily activities and group living
- empower children or young people and others to review their progress and outcomes
- encourage children or young people to review the strengths they bring to groups
- work with children or young people to agree changes to their daily activities and group living
- work in partnership with children or young people and others to provide feedback on improving the quality of care and group living
- complete records and reports required for promoting childcare practice in group living
- reflect on how you carried out your roles and responsibilities when promoting childcare practice in group living
