Overview
This standard identifies the requirements when you provide a home for individuals who require care or support. The standard includes welcoming individuals into your household and supporting them to settle in. It highlights the importance of identifying the needs, background and experience of individuals and the support which others may require to adjust and welcome the individual.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- establish consent and access information from placement organisers on individuals and the terms and conditions of placements
- identify and agree the roles and responsibilities of all involved in providing home environments for individuals
- work in partnership with individuals and others to identify their preferences, needs and any concerns
- reflect with others in the household how lives and living arrangements may change, and identify support the household requires
- welcome individuals into your home
- introduce individuals to others in ways that show respect for all
- encourage others to welcome and include individuals as members of the household
- support individuals to settle into the house, by giving them time, space and support to meet their preferences and needs
- provide space in the house which is personal to individuals and where they can store their belongings
- discuss with individuals and others the living arrangements and ground rules that the household adheres to
- work in partnership to consider how the preferences, needs and safety of households can be met and address any concerns
- encourage and support individuals and others to identify the benefits of being part of the household both for themselves and for others
- work in partnership with individuals and others to identify outcomes they wish to work towards whilst being part of the household
- support individuals to maintain and extend their social contacts
- encourage and support the independence of individuals in their daily lives
- empower and support individuals and others to achieve outcomes they have set
- support individual and others to evaluate how placements are going and any changes required to meet their preferences and needs
- complete records and reports required for providing a home environment for individuals
- reflect on how you carried out your roles and responsibilities to provide a home environment for individuals

- how to establish if the preferences and needs of individuals can be accommodated in your home environment
- how to balance the preferences and needs of individuals and others within your home environment whilst maintaining confidentiality

- how to promote the integration of individuals into your home
- the influence of culture, background and spirituality on integration into your home

- the role of relationships on the wellbeing of individuals and the potential considerations
- the impact of disruption, including placement disruption on individuals and others
- how to apply trauma informed principles to support individuals in home environments
- how to support emotional regulation during integration into households
- the influence of neurodivergence and additional needs when providing home environments for individuals
- the records and reports required for providing a home environment for individuals
- theories relevant to providing a home environment for individuals
- the relevant legal requirements, standards of practice, frameworks and guidance for providing a home environment for individuals
- the workplace requirements on equality, diversity, inclusion, and rights when providing a home environment for individuals
- how to work in partnership with others to provide a home environment for individuals
- how your personal experiences and unconscious bias may impact when providing a home environment for individuals, and how to address this
