Overview

This standard identifies the requirements when supporting the sustainable and safe use of resources and equipment. This includes contributing to moving resources and equipment safely, monitoring their availability and supporting their maintenance all through sustainable practices.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

  1. identify resources or equipment that need to be moved, stored and used
  2. work in partnership with all involved to agree how the resources or equipment will be moved, stored and used in line with risk assessments 
  3. take steps to minimise or eliminate identified risks to protect yourself and others
  4. move resources or equipment in line with workplace requirements and risk assessments to protect them from damage or contamination
  5. store resources and equipment in line with workplace requirements and risk assessments to protect them from damage or contamination 
  6. support the sustainable and safe use of resources and equipment, and encourage others to do so 
  7. support the routine maintenance of equipment in line with workplace requirements
  8. contribute to reporting and resolving any issues, faults, repairs or replacements of resources and equipment 
  9. contribute to monitoring and replenishing stocks of resources and equipment using sustainable methods 
  10. clean equipment and dispose of waste using infection prevention and control methods and personal protective equipment
  11. contribute to records and reports required for supporting the sustainable and safe use of resources and equipment 
  12. reflect on how you carried out your roles and responsibilities to support the sustainable and safe use of resources and equipment, with feedback from others

Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand:

  1. types of resources and equipment that may be moved, stored and used 
  2. how to access and review risk assessments on resources and equipment 
  3. the importance of moving resources and equipment safely and securely to minimise damage, and how to do this
  4. the principles of safe moving and handling, and the implications to yourself and others if not followed
  5. the importance of storing resources and equipment safely, securely and sustainably
  6. the impact of contamination and environmental conditions on resources and equipment 
  7. how and why to monitor stocks of resources and equipment in a sustainable way
  8. types of digital tools and devices that can support the sustainable and safe use of resources and equipment 
  9. the methods of infection prevention and control use when cleaning equipment and disposing of waste, and why this is important 
  10. the importance of routine maintenance of equipment and possible consequences if not maintained 
  11. how to respond to issues and faults and arrange repairs or replacements for resources and equipment
  12. the records and reports required for supporting the sustainable and safe use of resources and equipment
  13. the relevant legal requirements, standards of practice, frameworks and guidance for the sustainable and safe use of resources and equipment 
  14. how to work in partnership with others to support the sustainable and safe use of resources and equipment 
  15. how your personal experiences and unconscious bias may impact when supporting the sustainable and safe use of resources and equipment, and how to address this
  16. the role of supervision, reflective practice and learning and development in the sustainable and safe use of resources and equipment
