Overview

This standard identifies the requirements to support environments, resources, and equipment for healthcare procedures. This includes supporting the individual with the preparation of the environment, resources, and equipment and monitoring these during and after the individual’s procedure.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

  1. identify and agree the roles and responsibilities of yourself, individuals and others to support environments, resources, and equipment for healthcare procedures 
  2. work in partnership with individuals and others to identify and agree how environments, resources and equipment will be prepared and monitored, in line with preferences, needs and the requirements of procedures
  3. apply your learning and development to prepare and use resources and equipment
  4. ensure infection prevention and control methods and personal protective equipment are used
  5. contribute to gathering required resources and equipment for healthcare procedures and check they are ready for use 
  6. contribute to positioning resources and equipment for healthcare procedures 
  7. support individuals and others to check room temperatures and lighting meets their preferences and needs, and the requirements of the procedures 
  8. encourage and support the independence of individuals and their privacy during healthcare procedures 
  9. support the use and monitoring of equipment during procedures 
  10. ensure used resources and equipment are disposed of, cleaned or stored 
  11. ensure environments and resources are restocked and left ready for next use 
  12. contribute to records and reports required to support environments, resources and equipment for healthcare procedures
  13. reflect on how you carried out your roles and responsibilities to support environments, resources and equipment for healthcare procedures, with feedback from others

  14. how to carry out effective hand hygiene and infection prevention and control during healthcare procedures 
  15. the records and reports required for supporting environments, resources and equipment for healthcare procedures 
  16. the relevant legal requirements, standards of practice, frameworks and guidance for supporting environments, resources and equipment for healthcare procedures
  17. the workplace requirements on equality, diversity, inclusion, and rights when supporting environments, resources and equipment for healthcare procedures  
  18. how to work in partnership with others to support environments, resources and equipment for healthcare procedures
  19. how to respond to issues and concerns that may occur when supporting environments, resources and equipment for healthcare procedures
