Overview
This standard outlines the requirements for supporting individuals to move around safely and independently in specific places. This includes supporting individuals in indoor and outdoor areas, such as their home, workplace, or community. It involves working with individuals to assess their abilities, move around and navigate their surroundings and evaluate progress.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- establish consent and access information on mobility, abilities and preferences of individuals in making their way around specific places
- support individuals to identify their outcomes for safe and independent movement and navigation
- work in partnership with individuals and others to assess their strengths, safety and independence when they move around and navigate
- support individuals to assess strengths and limitations of available support and aids
- support individuals to assess accessibility challenges and risks
- contribute to accessing information, advice and support about accessibility challenges and risks
- access information about existing networks which could provide additional support
- support individuals to make decisions on the level of support required
- support and encourage individuals to move around safely and independently using agreed levels of support
- contribute to observing individuals as they move around and navigate specific places
- contribute your observations to feedback on progress and outcomes with individual and others, and identify changes required
- contribute to records and reports required for supporting individuals to make their way around specific places
- reflect on how you carried out your roles and responsibilities when supporting individuals to make their way around specific places, with feedback from others
