Overview

This standard is about installing rainwater goods on sheeting and cladding on roofs and walls, interpreting information, adopting safe, healthy and environmentally responsible work practices, selecting and using materials, components, tools and equipment, in accordance with organisational requirements which are equal to or exceed current statutory and legislative requirements

This standard is for people working in the occupational area of roofing and cladding occupations and can be used by installers, supervisors and managers

Safe work practices
P2 comply with the relevant legislation and official guidance to carry out your work and maintain safe and healthy work practices relating to the following:

  • methods of work
  • safe use of health and safety control equipment including PPE

  • safe use, storage and handling of materials, tools and equipment
  • specific risks to health including mental health
  • specific risks associated with asbestos containing materials
  • securing loads and materials
  • unloading and distribution
  • identifying adverse weather conditions

Selection of resources
P3 select the required quantities and qualities of resources for the methods of work:

  • materials, components and fixings
  • tools and equipment

Minimise the risk of damage
P4 comply with organisational procedures to minimise the risk of damage to the work and surrounding area by:

  • taking relevant steps to protect the work and its surrounding area from damage
  • maintaining a safe, clear and tidy work area
  • disposing of waste in accordance with current legislation

Meet the contract specification
P5 comply with the contract information to carry out the work efficiently to the required specification by the following:

  • demonstrating work skills to measure, mark out, cut, line and level, adjust, position, fix and secure
  • using and maintaining hand tools, power tools and associated equipment
  • installing the following rainwater goods to given working instructions:
    • outlets
    • brackets, fixings and supports
    • gutters, downpipes and angles
    • sealant and gaskets - membrane lined gutters
    • stop-ends, grills, guards, covers
    • overflows, sumps and outlets

Allocated time
P6 complete the work within the planned, allocated time in accordance with contract information, the programme of work and to meet the needs of other occupations
